We are very proud of one of our students, Emma Barnwell, on her magnificent achievement of winning the North East round of Sky Sports Living for Sports Student of the Year 2012.
Emma, although a very bright and able student, was lacking in confidence and self-esteem before embarking on the Sky Sports project. However, following the project everyone can see the wonderful transformation: she has become a confident young girl who is a far cry from the shy teenager who would rarely contribute in class.
The competition consisted of 10,000 applicants all wanting to win the £20,000 prize pool. The competition is like an X-factor for teenagers. They compete in rounds to try and get through to the final at the O2 arena in London. The winner receives £20,000 and promotion on MUZU.tv. It is a competition that will enhance any budding singers chance of getting a contract at some point to fulfil their dreams of becoming a Teen Star.
Evie Hollis, a Year 11 student made it through to the quarter-finals in the Teen Star competition. She performed a cover of the song ‘Skinny Love’ by Bon Iver. The feedback given from the judges was:
‘A lovely arrangement of a song we hear all too much on the panel, but you made it your own. Well done.’
We wish Evie all the support and good luck in the competition!
